I’m currently reading John Grisham’s Sycamore Row. It’s a sequel to his very first book A Time to Kill. He writes about the rural South that I know well because of relatives who live there. And, of course, he writes about lawyers, a world I know well because I am one.
What is your favorite quality about yourself?
My optimism.

When and why did you begin writing?
I read Louisa May Alcott’s An Old Fashioned Girl when I was eleven. I immediately got out paper and pencil and began to write my own stories. I wrote my first novel of three hundred pages when I was thirteen.
What do you consider the most challenging work about writing a novel or writing in general?
I think the hardest part is the thinking stage, when you know the general outlines of the story and maybe what happens at the end, but you don’t know exactly how it happens. It helps me to do a lot of thinking before I start writing.
